Hand & Wrist problems

There are many different problems that you might be experiencing with your wrist:

  • Pain – there are many conditions that cause pain in the wrist
  • Stiffness – often following an injury or secondary to arthritis
  • Nerve compression – causing pins and needles or weakness
  • Tendon problems – there are many tendons in the wrist/hand that can cause problems
  • Ganglions – swellings related to degenerative change in the wrist joint
  • Fractures – wrist fractures, metacarpal fractures, scaphoid fractures

There are things you can do yourself to treat your wrist problem, including using splints, painkillers or ice packs to help reduce inflammation and relieve pain. Avoiding activities that may aggravate your symptoms will also help, but if your quality of life is reduced you may need to seek further treatments such as:

  • physiotherapy
  • injections
  • surgery (rarely)
